Unknown Gunmen, Security Operatives Clash In Okigwe

Okigwe town was Saturday, December 31, virtually deserted following reported clash between unknown gunmen and security operatives.

The town was virtually deserted as residents fled to different directions.

The Limca junction axis of the Enugu-Port Harcourt motorway was shut, requiring vehicles to take a detour through Ubahu, Okpara Road, and Ogii before rejoining the road at the Umualumoke/Ezinnachi axis.

The only option available for vehicles using the highway was to zigzag through the neighbourhoods in order to connect to the various points along their route.

The problems that resulted from the expressway’s traffic flow being disrupted were a terrible experience for the travellers.

The expressway’s Ogii/Umualumoke intersection was nearly frantic as traffic from both ends, Enugu and Umuahia, battled to re-join the highway while also attempting to avoid difficulty by taking a diversion off of it.

Although there were little specifics about the altercation at the time this report was filed, there was a noticeable military presence all along the motorway, particularly around the Ihube junction. According to Vanguard report.
