Amidst the nationwide shutdown of government agencies and parastatals, the Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, Kano branch has distanced itself from the ongoing organised labour strike.
The organised labour had insisted on embarking on an indefinite strike following the federal government’s refusal to increase the minimum wage above N60,000.
However, the NMA Secretary in Kano, Dr Abdurrahman Ali, who spoke to Daily Trust on Monday disclosed that the body is not affiliated with the labour union.
“We are a professional body and we are not part of NLC so we are not embarking on any strike action.
“All doctors and medical practitioners will be on duty at their various hospitals.
“This may not be 100 percent but we are not part of it. Of course, you may go there and discover that the person to bring out your file is also away but our members are on the ground.”
Patients at some public hospitals were stranded as most units did not operate following the nationwide strike.
