Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior took to his X account to share his reaction after missing out on the 2024 Ballon d’Or award.
Many had anticipated that this would be Vinicius’ year to claim the prestigious honor. However, just hours before the award ceremony, reports surfaced indicating that no Real Madrid players or officials would be attending the event in Paris, as it was believed another player would take the prize over the Brazilian star.
Following the official announcement, Vinicius posted: “I’ll do it 10x if I have to. They are not ready.”
Manchester City’s Rodri was named the Ballon d’Or winner at Monday’s event in Paris, France.
The Ballon d’Or ceremony celebrated not only outstanding individual players but also recognized top clubs and managers who have significantly impacted the sport over the past year.
Besides Vinicius and Rodri, other 2024 Ballon d’Or nominees included Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, Manchester City’s Phil Foden, and Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman.
While the Ballon d’Or trophy was the highlight of the evening, the ceremony also honored other top talents with awards such as the Kopa Trophy for the best young player and the Yashin Trophy for the best goalkeeper.
