The Labour Party (LP) has officially distanced itself from its former National Treasurer, Oluchi Oparah, due to accusations of fraudulent behavior.
This announcement was made in a statement on Thursday by the party’s publicity secretary, Obiora Ifoh.
The statement noted that Oparah was indefinitely suspended as a party member in November 2023 for engaging in activities contrary to the party’s interests, and her suspension remains in effect.
The party urged Oparah to cease claiming the title of National Women Leader, clarifying that she has never held this position nor has she ever run for it.
Additionally, the LP labeled Oparah an imposter, asserting that she has been seen at various events fraudulently representing herself as the National Women Leader in an attempt to extort organizations.
The statement highlighted, “An impostor is someone who pretends to be another person to deceive others, particularly for financial gain.
Therefore, her recent efforts to use the title of National Women Leader of the Labour Party to solicit financial benefits constitutes impersonation.
We have received reports that Ms. Oluchi has been observed at different venues deceitfully presenting herself as the National Women Leader of the Labour Party to extort these organizations.
This situation has caused significant embarrassment to the Labour Party, leading to this clarification.
For the record, the National Women Leader of the Labour Party is Mrs. Dudu Manuga.
She is the only one authorized to oversee the activities of millions of Labour Party women both in Nigeria and internationally.”
