The President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been urged to reconsider any legislative proposals that could further deepen divisions in the country, in the spirit of fairness and justice.
This call was made by Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, the Governor of Bauchi State and Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, during the opening session of the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting held at the Governor’s office.
In his address, Governor Bala Mohammed expressed his concerns about the ongoing discussions regarding the national tax reform law, emphasizing that the northern region’s interests might not be adequately represented.
“As a united nation, Nigeria must avoid passing laws that could lead to the marginalization of any region,” he stated.
Governor Mohammed also took the opportunity to encourage his cabinet members to stay focused on achieving the goals outlined in the “My Bauchi Project” blueprint. He made this appeal during the opening of the State Executive Council meeting in the Executive Chamber of the Government House.
“I respectfully urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to withhold approval of any bill that may disadvantage specific regions,” he added.
The governor voiced confidence in the northern region’s economic sustainability, highlighting its rich agricultural and mineral resources. He stressed the importance of crafting policies that foster growth and development across the north, urging that regional resources like agriculture and minerals be harnessed to boost the economy.
“We in Bauchi and other northern states possess the resources to thrive on our own through agriculture and mineral wealth. It’s essential that we look inward for growth,” he said.
Governor Mohammed concluded his speech by urging his cabinet to redouble their efforts in ensuring the success of the “My Bauchi Project,” noting that the achievements of 2024 had fallen short of those made in 2023.
The meeting then proceeded to a closed-door session with members of the State Executive Council.
