With Tenure Nearing End, Obaseki Disbands Cabinet in Final Days

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has officially dissolved his cabinet in the final days of his administration, just ahead of the upcoming transition of power.

The dissolution comes as Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares to assume office as the state’s new governor. According to reports, the cabinet disbandment occurred on Friday, following a valedictory session at the Government House in Benin City.

The formal motion to dissolve the Edo State Executive Council, which served from 2020 to 2024, was introduced by Deputy Governor Godwins Omobayo and seconded by Osilama Okuofu, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning. This move marks the end of Obaseki’s two terms as governor, as he concludes an eight-year tenure focused on reform and development across Edo State.

During the farewell session, Governor Obaseki took the opportunity to express his gratitude to his executive council members for their dedication and support in driving the government’s initiatives and helping fulfill his administration’s vision. He commended their efforts toward achieving a more progressive and prosperous Edo, recognizing the council’s role in delivering on promises made to the people.
