BREAKING: NAFDAC Shuts Down Benue Warehouse Storing Expired Products [Photos]

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has announced that it has sealed the Purity Agro Chemical Centre located in Gboko, Benue State, after discovering a large quantity of expired and unapproved agrochemical products.

The operation, which was conducted by NAFDAC’s enforcement team, resulted in the seizure of 724 cartons of expired Patriarc agrochemicals.

In a statement shared on Friday through its official X (formerly Twitter) account, NAFDAC revealed that the warehouse in question was found to be unlawfully revalidating the expired agrochemicals by assigning them new shelf lives. These products were being prepared for distribution despite their expiration, posing a significant risk to both consumers and the environment. Along with the expired Patriarc agrochemicals, NAFDAC also discovered several other unregistered products, including Kris Herbicide, E-Tong Reapon 800WG, Onion Texas, Tomato Chiloli, and Hot Pepper.

NAFDAC confirmed that its operatives seized all of the expired and unapproved products from the warehouse, ensuring that the facility was fully secured to prevent any further illegal activities. The agency also stated that the owner of Purity Agro Chemical Centre is currently at large, and efforts are underway to track and apprehend the individual responsible for the unlawful operation.

As part of its ongoing commitment to public health and safety, NAFDAC has urged consumers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious products or activities related to food, drugs, and agrochemicals. The agency emphasized the importance of being cautious when purchasing or using agrochemical products and encouraged the public to immediately contact their nearest NAFDAC office if they encounter any irregularities or have concerns about product safety.

This operation highlights NAFDAC’s continued efforts to ensure that only safe and properly regulated products are available to consumers in Nigeria.
