Zakari Ibrahim, the former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), has passed away at the age of 81.
This sad news was confirmed through an official statement released by the Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Radda.
In the statement, Governor Radda expressed deep sorrow at the loss of Ibrahim, praising him as a distinguished son of Katsina who dedicated his life to serving Nigeria in various important roles. He noted that Ambassador Ibrahim’s contributions to the country’s security and diplomacy left an indelible impact on Nigeria’s history, highlighting his significant influence on both national security and foreign relations.
The Governor further described Ibrahim’s passing as an irreplaceable loss not just for Katsina State but for Nigeria as a whole, reflecting on his invaluable service to the nation. Radda also acknowledged the late Ambassador’s prominent position as Talban Katsina, where he bridged the gap between traditional values and modern governance, embodying the ideals of the Katsina Emirate.
In his message, Governor Radda extended his condolences to the bereaved family, the Katsina Emirate Council, and the people of Katsina State, offering prayers for comfort during this difficult time.
Ambassador Ibrahim’s legacy includes his tenure as Director-General of the NIA from 1993 to 1998, a period in which he worked tirelessly to strengthen Nigeria’s intelligence apparatus.
He was also a long-time associate of former President Muhammadu Buhari, having been a schoolmate at the Katsina Government College. Additionally, Ibrahim held the respected traditional title of Talban Katsina, further solidifying his influential role within the Katsina Emirate.
His passing marks the end of an era for the state and the country, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and public service.
