Repair Work on Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kV Transmission Line Halted After Vandal Attack
The ongoing repair work on the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132 Kilovolt (kV) transmission line has been disrupted due to a recent attack by vandals. According to Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager for Public Affairs at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the vandals targeted the location for the second time, damaging Towers 29 to 31 and stealing approximately one-third of the conductor on Thursday.
In a statement released on Friday, Mbah explained that a team of TCN engineers, led by the General Manager of the Port Harcourt Region, Emmanuel Akpa, promptly visited the site for an inspection. The findings revealed that the criminals carried out their illicit activities under the cover of night, making it more difficult to identify and apprehend them.
To safeguard the site during repairs, Mbah confirmed that local security has been deployed to the Ula Ikata area in Ahoada East Local Government Area. This will ensure that the location remains secure until the necessary repairs are completed. Furthermore, as a precautionary measure, the transmission line will be energized from the Ahoada end to prevent any additional theft during the ongoing restoration work.
Despite the challenges posed by flooding and the difficult terrain in the area, Mbah reassured the public that the TCN is working diligently to replace the stolen 250mm conductor. “The restringing of the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kV transmission line is now approximately 85 percent completed,” she stated, emphasizing the company’s continued efforts to address the damage caused by the vandals.
Mbah also called on local communities to support the company’s efforts in curbing such criminal activities, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior in their areas. She added that TCN is intensifying its efforts nationwide to protect all operational installations and prevent further disruptions caused by criminal activities.
