JUST-IN: Oldest Catholic Priest In Nigeria, Thomas Oleghe Is Dead

The oldest Catholic priest in Nigeria, Monsignor Thomas Oleghe, has passed away at the age of 104. His death occurred early on Sunday morning, November 24, 2024, at approximately 2:30 am. Oleghe was a respected member of the Catholic community and served within the Diocese of Auchi.

In a statement released by Gabriel Dunia, the Bishop of Auchi, the church mourned the loss of the beloved priest, expressing deep gratitude for his long and impactful life. “With gratitude to God for a life well-lived, I regret to inform you of the passing of the Rt. Rev. MSGR Thomas Oleghe, the oldest Catholic priest in Nigeria, who peacefully departed this world at around 2:30 am today, November 24, 2024,” the statement read.

The Bishop continued, honoring Oleghe’s legacy: “Monsignor Oleghe lived a remarkable life, dedicated to his faith and his service to others. He was a cherished figure in our diocese, and his gentle spirit will be missed by all who knew him.”

Oleghe’s funeral is scheduled for Wednesday, November 27, 2024, where family, friends, and the local Catholic community will gather to pay their respects. The Bishop concluded the statement with a prayer for the repose of his soul, saying, “May his lovely and gentle soul continue to rest in perfect peace. Amen.”
