The Lagos State Task Force has dismissed two of its officers following their involvement in a phone theft during a recent raid. According to the task force’s spokesman, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the incident occurred during an operation in the Gowon Estate area of Lagos.
The operation, which targeted a hotel known for harboring drug users and traffickers, led to multiple arrests. However, the integrity of the raid was compromised when two officers were caught on CCTV stealing mobile phones from the scene. The officers, identified as Fatai Yusuf (42) and Hammed Garuba (38), were serving as paramilitary personnel within the agency.
The task force conducted a thorough investigation into the matter through its Disciplinary Committee. Upon confirming the officers’ misconduct, they were dismissed from service and will face criminal prosecution for theft.
CSP Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force, strongly condemned the officers’ actions. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to integrity and accountability, warning that any breach of conduct would result in severe consequences. “The Lagos State Taskforce is guided by principles of discipline, equity, and justice. Any act that compromises the agency’s credibility or erodes public trust will be addressed decisively and without hesitation,” Akerele said.
