Anambra Governorship Aspirant, John Nwosu, Criticizes Soludo Over Rising Insecurity
A governorship aspirant under the Labour Party for the 2025 Anambra elections, John Nwosu, has criticized Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his alleged failure to address the growing insecurity in the state.
Nwosu expressed concerns about the administration’s slow response to criminal activities, which have escalated during the festive season.
Yuletide Marred by Insecurity
The festive period in Anambra State has been overshadowed by a wave of kidnappings, including the abduction of Justice Azuka, a member representing Onitsha North State Constituency 1 in the State House of Assembly, on Christmas Eve.
Reacting to the incident, Nwosu said, “Clearly, the Soludo administration has failed in articulating what ought to be priorities for Ndi Anambra.” He lamented the decline in the number of indigenes returning home for Christmas and New Year festivities, attributing the trend to fears over insecurity.
“Statistics indicate a drastic drop in the number of those returning to Anambra for the 2024 Christmas and 2025 New Year celebrations. People no longer feel safe in their homeland,” Nwosu remarked.
Criticism of Delayed Security Measures
Governor Soludo recently announced plans to launch a joint security operation, codenamed Operation Udo Ga Achi, by late January 2025. However, Nwosu criticized the timing of the initiative, questioning why it was postponed until after the festive season when the need for heightened security is most pressing.
“It is most embarrassing that an eminent Anambra prelate remains missing, and on Christmas Eve, an incumbent member of the State Assembly was kidnapped,” Nwosu said. “State security is not a seasonal project; it requires continuous commitment, resources, and action. Scheduling critical security interventions as if they are social appointments shows a lack of seriousness.”
A Call for Change
Nwosu urged Anambra residents to demand better leadership and accountability from the state government. He argued that the current administration’s approach to security has left communities vulnerable and alienated from their own homeland.
“The present Anambra State Government cannot be allowed to mortgage the security of the state and its people. We cannot remain in exile from our own land,” he stated.
Nwosu emphasized the need for immediate and decisive action, including the deployment of adequate security personnel, resources, and infrastructure to protect lives and property. He also called for a leadership change to restore confidence and ensure the safety of Ndi Anambra.

The criticism highlights the growing dissatisfaction among residents and political stakeholders regarding the Soludo administration’s handling of insecurity in Anambra.
