Former Ebonyi State Governor and current Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has endorsed Governor Francis Nwifuru for a second term in office, setting the stage for his potential re-election in 2027.
Umahi made this declaration on Friday during a visit from members of the Izzi National Youth Forum, who paid him a Christmas homage at his Umunaga Uburu residence in Ohaozara Local Government Area.
He commended the group, led by their National President, Barrister Andrew Chibueze Elom, for their thoughtful visit during the festive season.
In his remarks, Umahi reaffirmed his unwavering support for Governor Nwifuru, expressing confidence that the governor would serve two uninterrupted terms, as has been the tradition with past governors in the state.
He stated, “Thank you for this surprise visit. To be honest, I expected it but not on this scale. It’s even more remarkable considering you left your son, Governor Francis Nwifuru, to visit me when you should be celebrating with him.”
Umahi emphasized the strength of his commitment, declaring, “Even if, God forbid, anyone from Izzi stands against me tomorrow, the covenant I made with him and God is for an uninterrupted eight years. Nothing will change that. I have faced and defeated principalities and powers alone before, and now that I have someone by my side, I will do it again. Governor Nwifuru is humble and focused, and I will stand by him until the end of his eight years.”
Izzi Youths Acknowledge Umahi’s Leadership
Earlier, Barrister Andrew Chibueze Elom, President of the Izzi National Youth Forum, expressed gratitude to Umahi for fulfilling his promise to ensure that the governorship was handed over to an Izzi indigene. He also appealed to Umahi to continue supporting Governor Nwifuru to ensure his administration remains on track.
“Your Excellency, our hardworking Minister of Works, we are here to thank you for keeping your promise to hand over the governorship to an Izzi son. We also urge you not to abandon this project midway. Stand by your son, guide him, and help him avoid any missteps in governance,” Elom pleaded.
