El-Rufai Speaks On Dumping APC For PDP

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed claims that he has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Addressing the rumors on Sunday, a close associate of El-Rufai clarified the situation in an interview with Channels Television.

Gists9ja reports that the aide described the report as the work of “mischief-makers” intent on spreading falsehoods, stating that El-Rufai would not have left the APC for the PDP without making a formal announcement.

El-Rufai himself addressed the speculation on his verified X account (formerly Twitter), urging the public to disregard the “patent lies” regarding his political allegiance. He revealed that legal action is being taken against the originators of the false claims.

In his post, the former governor wrote, “Please disregard the patent lies and rumors about my political affiliation. I have referred the lead peddlers of the fake news for further action by my lawyers.”

This firm denial comes amid heightened political tensions as parties realign ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed confidence in its chances of returning to power at the federal level and securing more state governorships in the 2027 general elections.

This optimism was conveyed during a visit by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State at his residence in Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area.

Speaking on behalf of the NWC, National Treasurer Alhaji Ahmed Yayare pointed to growing dissatisfaction among Nigerians over persistent economic challenges under the current administration. He noted that the PDP remains a strong alternative for citizens seeking effective governance.

Governor Diri commended the NWC for its unwavering support and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the PDP’s ideals in Bayelsa State and beyond. He highlighted the importance of unity within the party as a cornerstone for achieving its political goals in the upcoming elections.

With both parties gearing up for 2027, the political landscape is set to become increasingly dynamic as stakeholders strategize to win the hearts of Nigerian voters.
