A former councillor from Rimba-Ebagi ward in Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), identified only as Paul, and his son tragically lost their lives in a road accident on Monday.
According to a witness who spoke to Daily Trust, the incident occurred around 10:34 am when the father and son were riding a motorcycle. The witness explained that the motorcycle suddenly fell onto the road, and a trailer approaching from behind ran over them, causing fatal injuries.
Officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) responded to the scene, transporting the victims to a nearby hospital, where they were confirmed dead. The bodies were later taken to the family’s residence for burial preparations.
An FRSC official, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed the incident, stating that the bodies had been handed over to the family. The driver of the trailer and the vehicle were taken to the police division for further investigation.
19 Wedding Guests Killed in Plateau State Road Accident
In a separate tragedy, 19 wedding guests lost their lives in a devastating road accident in the Kwana Macji area of Pankshin Local Government Area, Plateau State. The victims, who were traveling back to Kano State from a wedding in Barkin Ladi, were involved in the fatal accident on Saturday.
The vehicle they were traveling in caught fire during rescue operations, trapping and killing all 19 passengers. The victims had chosen a shorter route through Gindiri to Bauchi when the accident occurred. Some individuals, including the driver, managed to escape the vehicle before the fire broke out. However, the 19 passengers were not as fortunate.
John Dasar, Chairman of the Pankshin LGA Emergency Management Committee, confirmed the incident and explained that while some survivors were treated at Pankshin General Hospital, they were later transferred to Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) for more specialized care.
Felix Gonung, the Chairman of Pankshin LGA, coordinated the survivors’ transfer, with assistance from Health Councillor Lengyang Tali, the Police Divisional Officer, and FRSC officials. Those with minor injuries were treated and transported back to Kano State.
