The Kebbi State Police Command has firmly rejected a ₦1.6 million bribe offered by a bandit group, Lukarawa, in an attempt to influence the prosecution of suspected members of the group.
The bribe was presented to the Command’s lead investigator at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) premises in Birnin-Kebbi.
According to a statement from the Command’s spokesperson, Nafiu Abubakar, the bribe was offered on January 13, 2025, by three individuals—Umaru Garba (53) from Dangandu village, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji Mamman (51) from Maimaichi village, and Usman Muhammadu (50) from Bakaramba village in Argungu LGA. The suspects conspired to offer the sum of One Million and Sixty Thousand Naira (₦1,060,000) to the investigator in a bid to compromise the ongoing investigation and prosecution of a case of banditry linked to the Lukarawa terrorists operating in the northern part of the state.
The bribe was immediately rejected, and the suspects were arrested. Investigations are ongoing, and once completed, they will be charged to court for prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police for Kebbi State, Bello Sani, praised the professionalism and commitment of the detectives involved in the case. He also urged other police officers to follow their example.
Commissioner Sani reaffirmed the Kebbi State Police Command’s unwavering commitment to combating banditry and other serious crimes to ensure the continued socio-economic development of the state.
