Nollywood actor-turned-politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has alleged that U.S. President Donald Trump harbors intentions of extending his presidency indefinitely, potentially becoming a dictator.
In a post on Sunday via his X platform account, Okonkwo claimed that Trump is actively undermining democratic institutions that could stand in the way of his prolonged stay in power.
“Trump Wants to Transform America Into His Own Country” – Okonkwo
According to the former Labour Party chieftain, Trump has signaled a willingness to continue beyond a second term unless decisive action is taken to prevent such a move.
“Gradually, Trump wants to transform America into his own domain by dismantling democratic institutions that could obstruct his transition from a president to a dictator or life leader,” Okonkwo alleged.
He further stated that Trump has openly expressed admiration for authoritarian leaders such as Vladimir Putin (Russia), Kim Jong-un (North Korea), and Xi Jinping (China), who have maintained prolonged rule by suppressing opposition.
“Trump has not hidden his respect for dictators who dominate their nations through authoritarian control. His recent remarks suggest he is already considering ways to remain in power beyond the constitutionally allowed limit,” Okonkwo added.
Okonkwo Cites Trump’s Past Statements as Warning Signs
Okonkwo referenced Trump’s comments after securing re-election, where he allegedly hinted at the possibility of staying beyond his term.
“Mark his words: ‘I think I’m not allowed to run again. I’m not sure.’ He made similar remarks during an address to Republican members of Congress, suggesting that his second term might not be his last if something were done about it,” Okonkwo claimed.
Trump’s Second Presidential Term Sparks Concerns
Trump was officially inaugurated on January 20 as the 47th President of the United States, following his previous tenure as the 45th President from 2017 to 2021. His return to power has reignited debates about his leadership style and long-term political ambitions.
While Okonkwo’s claims remain speculative, they reflect growing concerns among critics about Trump’s approach to governance and his potential impact on American democracy.
