The Edo State Government has directed the immediate closure of all satellite campuses affiliated with Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma.
The directive was issued in a statement on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Ikhilor. According to the statement, all academic programs and courses must now be conducted exclusively at the university’s main campus in Ekpoma.
Commitment to Academic Excellence
The government clarified that the decision aligns with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s vision to enhance the university’s academic standards and improve its overall quality.
“As part of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s commitment to raising the standard of Ambrose Alli University and ensuring the effective use of the government’s significant investment in the institution, all satellite campuses operating outside the main campus are hereby shut down with immediate effect,” the statement read.
Implementation and Compliance
The Edo State Government has directed the Governing Council and the university’s management to enforce full compliance with the policy. The move is expected to streamline academic operations, improve resource allocation, and ensure better oversight of educational programs at AAU.
The closure of the satellite campuses marks a significant step in the government’s broader efforts to reform higher education in the state.
