The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has firmly stated that the presidency will not return to the North in 2027, reaffirming support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid.
According to Ganduje, the APC remains committed to the principle of power rotation and zoning. He emphasized that after Tinubu completes his tenure, the presidency could then shift back to the North in 2031.
The former Kano State Governor made this declaration on Tuesday while hosting a delegation from the Tinubu Northern Youth Forum.
Support for Tinubu’s Second Term
Speaking at the meeting, Ganduje praised the group’s efforts in mobilizing support for the administration, particularly in enlightening the public on government policies such as the tax reform agenda. He noted that although the reform was initially misunderstood, continued public engagement has helped clarify its objectives.
Encouraging grassroots political participation, he commended the forum for its early mobilization ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that Tinubu represents all regions of Nigeria.
“Our president is for the North, our president is for the South, our president is for all six geopolitical zones,” Ganduje stated, highlighting the inclusivity of Tinubu’s leadership.
Commitment to Power Rotation
Reaffirming the APC’s stance on zoning, Ganduje recalled that after a northern president served for eight years, the party ensured that power shifted to the South. He insisted that Tinubu, having emerged as the party’s candidate and winning the 2023 election, will seek re-election in 2027.
“Our president has come from the South, and by God’s grace, he will run for a second term in 2027. After that, the presidency will return to the North,” he declared.
Addressing the Tinubu Northern Youth Forum, Ganduje expressed confidence in their vision and pledged to review their proposals for potential collaboration.
His statement reinforces the APC’s commitment to zoning while setting the stage for political alignments ahead of the next election cycle.
