Tragedy has struck the Catholic community in Edo State as a Seminarian, Peter Andrew, who was abducted alongside a parish priest, Rev. Fr. Philip Ekeli, on March 3, has died in the custody of his kidnappers.
The abduction occurred at St. Peter Catholic Church, Iviukha, in Etsako East Local Government Area.
While Rev. Fr. Ekeli regained his freedom on March 13 following joint efforts by police operatives and local vigilante groups, the young Seminarian was not as fortunate. His body has yet to be recovered as authorities continue combing the surrounding bushes.
Confirming the development, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, stated that the rescue took place at about 4:52 p.m. in Amughe community. He added that operations are ongoing to locate the remains of Peter Andrew and to bring the rest of the kidnappers to justice.
During the initial rescue efforts on the day of the abduction, one suspected kidnapper was killed and four others were apprehended.
