Afrobeats sensation Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has acknowledged the frustrations many Nigerians feel due to the country’s numerous challenges but remains optimistic about its future.
Despite the hardships, Rema affirmed his commitment to contributing to Nigeria’s growth and development in any way he can.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the singer expressed his determination to uphold Afrobeats and Nigerian culture on the global stage.
“A lot of people are giving up in Nigeria. Many are frustrated, but I still hold onto hope. Carrying Afrobeats and our culture this far sometimes makes me look like I talk too much or care too much. Some may even think I’m trying to be a ‘messiah.’ But I don’t aim to do too much—I just want to do what I need to do,” he stated.
Rema Reflects on Grammy Loss
The “Calm Down” hitmaker also shared his experience at the 2025 Grammy Awards, where he was nominated for Best Global Music Album but did not win.
Reflecting on the moment, he said:
“I was celebrating others as they walked up that stage. Of course, I had my fingers crossed, hoping I’d get my turn too. But when it didn’t happen… it happens. It’s not the first award I’ve been nominated for and didn’t win.”
