Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has affirmed that the recent Supreme Court judgment concerning the leadership tussle within the Labour Party has effectively removed Julius Abure from his position as the party’s National Chairman.
Speaking during the inauguration of his political structure in preparation for the 2027 general elections, Governor Otti emphasized that the Labour Party transcends any individual ambition or personality. He urged those directly impacted by the apex court’s ruling to respect the judgment and prioritize peace and unity within the party.
“The Labour Party is bigger and more important than any of us. It must not be reduced to a personal enterprise,” Otti stated. “Unless their intention from the beginning was to destroy the Labour Party, I urge those affected to accept the court’s decision and allow peace to reign.”
Otti further warned against twisting the Supreme Court’s decision for personal gain, noting that certain individuals have been issuing misleading interpretations of the ruling. According to him, such actions only serve to sow confusion and discord within the party ranks.
“I’ve seen some people claiming the judgment did not remove them from office. While we could choose to ignore such comments, I believe they must be addressed to set the record straight,” he said.
He added that attempts to weaken or dismantle the Labour Party would ultimately be futile and self-destructive. “Anyone who tries to bring down this party will end up destroying themselves. The Labour Party will only emerge stronger from this,” he said confidently.
The Supreme Court on Friday delivered a decisive ruling, declaring that Julius Abure is not the legitimate National Chairman of the Labour Party. The judgment brings an end to a protracted leadership crisis that had threatened to destabilize the party ahead of critical political timelines.
Governor Otti’s comments are seen as both a reaffirmation of the court’s authority and a rallying call for unity within the Labour Party, especially as political activities gradually gear up for the 2027 elections.
