Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has shared an interesting story about a bet he made with Vinícius Júnior during Valencia’s 2-1 victory over Real Madrid.
The match saw a crucial moment in the 13th minute when Real Madrid were awarded a penalty, giving Vinícius the opportunity to give his side the lead.
However, Mamardashvili had other plans. He dived in the right direction and made a spectacular save, denying Vinícius from the spot. The Brazilian winger eventually managed to score in the second half, but it was Valencia who took all three points, thanks to Hugo Duro’s dramatic goal in added time.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Mamardashvili revealed that before the penalty, he had jokingly bet Vinícius €50 that he would save the shot. “I had a conversation with Vinícius, and I won €50,” Mamardashvili said. “I asked him if he wanted to bet €50, and he said ‘yes,’ and I won.”
Despite winning the bet, Mamardashvili humorously noted that Vinícius had yet to pay up: “He ought to pay me, but he hasn’t yet.”
The Georgian goalkeeper was in outstanding form throughout the match, making several crucial saves to help secure the victory for his team.
