The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the loss of four Nigerian gospel singers in a fatal road crash along the Ikorodu-Sagamu Road in Ogun State.
The tragic incident, which occurred over the weekend, has plunged the gospel music community into mourning.
According to a statement released on Monday by Florence Okpe, the FRSC Ogun State Commander and Public Information Officer, the victims were identified as Evangelist Ayodeji Kekerejesu, Evangelist Iyanu Joseph, Monjolajesu Oluwapamilerin, and Opeyemi Adesina. All four were said to be from the same family.
Okpe revealed that the accident occurred when the vehicle conveying the singers collided with another vehicle, resulting in a fatal impact. She stated that the victims died on the spot due to the severity of the crash.
Offering her condolences to the bereaved families, Okpe urged motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits and exercise caution while driving. She emphasized that speeding remains one of the leading causes of fatal road accidents in the country.
Another Tragic Crash Claims Seven Lives on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
In a separate but equally devastating incident, seven individuals were killed in a multi-vehicle collision along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the early hours of Saturday.
Florence Okpe also confirmed this incident in a statement issued from Abeokuta, the state capital. She explained that the accident occurred around 7:00 a.m. near the NIPCO filling station area and involved three vehicles: a Mack truck (registration number SEY 363 YY), a tanker (T2900LA), and a commercial bus (LSD 180 YA).
A total of 15 persons, 13 men and two women were involved in the accident. While four sustained injuries, seven lost their lives at the scene.
Preliminary investigations by the FRSC suggest that excessive speed and loss of control by the driver of the Mack truck were major contributors to the crash. The truck reportedly rammed into the other vehicles, triggering a chain reaction that led to multiple fatalities.
Call for Safer Roads
In light of these back-to-back tragedies, the FRSC has once again called on road users to prioritize safety. The Corps reiterated that strict adherence to traffic regulations, avoidance of speeding, and regular vehicle maintenance are essential to reducing the frequency of deadly accidents on Nigerian roads.
Both incidents have left families and communities devastated, sparking renewed calls for improved road safety enforcement and infrastructure upgrades along high-risk routes such as the Ikorodu-Sagamu and Lagos-Ibadan corridors.
