The Federal Government has officially rolled out the second phase of its Contactless Biometric Passport Application System at four additional Nigerian diplomatic missions located in the United States, Mexico, Jamaica, and Brazil.
Gists9ja reports that this update was shared by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) through its official X (formerly Twitter) account, with Service Spokesman ACI AS Akinlabi providing the details.
According to the statement, the phased implementation is part of an ongoing effort to modernize and streamline passport services for Nigerians abroad. Led by the Comptroller General of the NIS, Kemi Nanna Nandap, the initiative is aimed at easing passport renewals for Nigerians in the diaspora by eliminating the need for physical presence during biometric capture.
The NIS explained that the application system is currently accessible via the NIS Mobile App, which is available on the Google Play Store. The Apple Store version is expected to go live soon, along with a more enhanced version of the app designed to improve user experience and accessibility for both Android and iOS users.
“With this rollout, we are pleased to inform the public that the Contactless Passport App is now active in Canada, the USA, Mexico, Jamaica, Brazil, Europe, and Asia,” the NIS noted.
However, the Service clarified that the contactless system has not yet been launched in Australia or Nigeria, and a future rollout date will be communicated for these locations in due course.
“The Nigeria Immigration Service remains committed to delivering innovative and efficient passport services to Nigerians globally,” the statement added.
