Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), a prominent Nigerian social media personality and influencer, has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The arrest, confirmed by VDM’s lawyer Deji Adeyanju on Friday evening, follows the influencer’s public condemnation of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) over alleged unauthorized transactions from his mother’s bank account.
In a Facebook post, Adeyanju shared the news of VDM’s detention and revealed that the arrest stemmed from his client’s vocal criticism of GTBank. The accusations from VDM had sparked attention after he raised concerns regarding suspicious withdrawals from his mother’s account without her consent or knowledge.
Legal Action and Details of VDM’s Arrest
In a follow-up update, Adeyanju provided more insights into the circumstances of the arrest. He disclosed that a legal team from his firm, led by Marvin Omorogbe, met with one of VDM’s friends who had also been detained during the incident. Adeyanju mentioned that VDM was initially reluctant to speak with anyone while locked inside the exit door of GTBank for over five minutes, allegedly to facilitate his arrest by EFCC agents.
Adeyanju emphasized that VDM was subjected to what he described as inhumane treatment, further fueling his resolve to take legal action against GTBank. In his statement, the lawyer declared, “We will pursue legal recourse against GTBank for the unjust treatment towards our client.”

VDM’s arrest came just hours after reports circulated that he had been apprehended by the Nigerian Police in Abuja. This situation has sparked significant attention on social media, with many Nigerians weighing in on the controversy surrounding the influencer’s detention.
