Four days after the promised restoration date, four of the six states in Nigeria’s North-East remain in complete darkness due to the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) failing to restore power.
Residents in Adamawa, Yobe, Borno, and Taraba once again saw their hopes dashed, as the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) failed to restore power by the promised deadline of 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025. As of this report, a widespread blackout continues across the region.
The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) had previously stated that the blackout was necessary to allow the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to perform essential upgrades on the Jos–Gombe 330 kV and Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 132 kV transmission lines. The work includes erecting new towers at the Bauchi 330 kV station and rerouting an existing 132 kV .
However, the promised restoration date has come and gone, and residents remain frustrated and disappointed. They say the prolonged power outage has crippled daily life and economic activity, and they’re demanding accountability and clear timelines.
YEDC had said the power cut was necessary to allow the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to carry out essential upgrades on the Jos–Gombe 330 kV and Jos–Bauchi–Gombe 132 kV transmission lines—work that includes installing new towers at the Bauchi 330 kV station and rerouting an existing 132 kV line .
However, with the restoration deadline missed, residents are furious. They report that the blackout.
