Henry Eluwa, the Imo State Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has stated that the party will not enter into any alliance or coalition with other political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He indicated that the SDP is committed to preserving its distinct identity and will resist any merger that could compromise its core principles.
In a press release, Eluwa affirmed that the state chapter fully supports the stance of the party’s national leadership, led by Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, who has firmly emphasized the need for the SDP to uphold its independence and ideological foundation.
He noted that, according to Gabam, any merger would only worsen the very challenges the country is striving to resolve, emphasizing that the party remains committed to supporting and promoting credible leadership.
“Individuals who align with our vision—such as Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, and others—have joined us unconditionally, and that is the principle we stand by,” he added.
“The SDP is here for the long haul, and by Allah’s grace, we will field a credible candidate in 2027—one that Nigerians from all walks of life can unite behind.”

We remain resolute in our stance—there will be no merger or coalition. Our commitment to preserving our identity, core values, and national perspective is unwavering,” the press statement affirmed.
