Educator cries out as Anambra boy who scored highest in JAMB is labeled a ‘mercenary’

Educator, Alex Onyia expresses concern after Anambra boy, Chinedu Okeke who scored the highest in the 2025 JAMB is labeled a ‘mercenary’.

It would be recalled that the student had 375, emerging as the highest score in the history of the exam.

Nigerian educator Alex Onyia, who spoke with Chinedu’s father, took to social media to set the record straight amid allegations.According to his post:

1.Chinedu, a native of Anambra, originally enrolled for Medicine and Surgery at UNN in 2021.

2.He eventually struggled with the course, failing three subjects during his second MBBS exam.

3.After realizing medicine wasn’t his calling, he and his parents redirected him to Mechanical Engineering, which meant retaking JAMB with Mathematics instead of Biology.

4.Enrolling at Achievers Academy, he excelled—winning all internal academic awards—and sat for JAMB again following a systems glitch.

5.He scored an impressive 375/400, setting a new record.

Onyia explained that claims of Chinedu being a “mercenary” stemmed from confusion over his previous JAMB admission and inconsistent personal details. He clarified that:

1.Chinedu properly updated his profile and has corrected NIN records from 2021.

2.The accusations have caused distress, and Onyia urged JAMB to investigate thoroughly and issue an apology if warranted.

He concluded by praising Chinedu’s determination, resilience, and readiness to pivot when his initial path proved unsuitable—a model of perseverance for all students
