Don Amamgbo Dumps Labour Party, Declares for African Democratic Congress in Anambra South Senatorial Race

In a bold political move that is reshaping the dynamics of the Anambra South Senatorial contest, prominent lawyer and senatorial aspirant, Sir (Barr.) Donald Chidi Amamgbo, has officially resigned from the Labour Party and declared his intention to continue his 2025 senatorial ambition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Amamgbo, popularly known as Okosisii Ihiala, made this announcement in a press release issued on Tuesday, citing deep structural failures, unresolved internal divisions, and a lack of coherent leadership in the Labour Party as the key reasons behind his departure.

“The Labour Party, which once held promise, has become deeply enmeshed in rancorous legal battles, factional struggles, and a breakdown of trust,” Amamgbo stated. “These crises have sadly rendered the party incapable of offering credible direction or leadership to its candidates and supporters.”

Amamgbo, who commands significant grassroots support across Ihiala, Nnewi, Orumba, Aguata, and other parts of Anambra South, expressed confidence in the ADC’s potential to deliver people-oriented leadership, describing the party as “a platform of stability, equity, and innovation.”

The senatorial hopeful called on his loyal supporters, youth groups, women leaders, traditional stakeholders, and the electorate at large to rally behind the African Democratic Congress, assuring them that the movement is about service, not party labels.

“This movement is about the people the traders in Nnewi, the farmers in Orumba, the artisans in Ihiala, and the students in Uli. It is about real, inclusive, and sustainable change.”

In what he described as a “stunning coincidence,” Amamgbo highlighted the symbolic significance of his name’s initials ADC now aligning with his new political platform, the African Democratic Congress.

The move is expected to energize the ADC’s presence in the Southeast and further position Amamgbo as a formidable candidate ahead of the senatorial elections.
