Ex-Bauchi SSG Ibrahim Kashim Quits PDP, May Contest 2027 Governorship on New Platform

Barrister Ibrahim Muhammad Kashim, former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) in Bauchi State and 2023 PDP governorship candidate, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), fueling speculation about a fresh political ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a resignation letter dated July 21, 2025, Kashim expressed gratitude to his ward executives and the PDP leadership for the opportunity to serve and for entrusting him with the party’s governorship ticket in the 2023 election cycle. Although he did not provide a specific reason for his exit, he hinted at his desire to continue public service under a new political arrangement.

Kashim previously stepped down from the 2023 governorship race in deference to Governor Bala Mohammed, who had returned to the state contest after failing to clinch the PDP’s presidential ticket. Kashim, a loyal party man at the time, relinquished his candidacy and resumed his duties as SSG, actively campaigning to support the governor’s re-election bid.

“In solidarity with the Governor, I campaigned vigorously across Bauchi Local Government Area alongside him,” Kashim noted, acknowledging his key role in Bala Mohammed’s successful re-election, despite the typical headwinds faced by second-term aspirants. He officially resigned from his position as SSG in January 2025, a move he described as a directive from Governor Bala Mohammed.

Since then, political observers have closely followed his next steps.

“Be that as it may, after due consideration, I wish to formally notify you that I have, effective the date of this letter, resigned my membership of the PDP. I hope to explore other avenues to seek the mandate of our people and serve with commitment, passion, integrity, and above all, the fear of Allah (SWT),” the letter read in part.

While Kashim has not yet declared his new political affiliation or officially announced a run for office, there is mounting speculation that he may be preparing to contest the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election under a different party platform.

Political analysts believe his departure from the PDP and calculated silence on his next move indicate a strategic repositioning aimed at tapping into voter dissatisfaction and realigning with a party that could offer him a clear path to the Governorship.
