Peter Obi Eligible for ADC 2027 Presidential Ticket Despite LP Membership – Party Confirms

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially affirmed that former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, remains eligible to contest for the ADC’s presidential ticket in the upcoming 2027 general elections, despite his continued membership in the Labour Party.

This clarification comes amid ongoing speculation surrounding Obi’s political alignment within Nigeria’s evolving opposition landscape. The ADC’s position reinforces the “special concession” earlier granted to Obi and other key opposition figures as part of a strategic alliance designed to strengthen the opposition ahead of the 2027 polls.

According to Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, ADC’s interim National Publicity Secretary, the party recognizes Obi’s significance and influence, and has intentionally left the door open for his full integration into the coalition without requiring immediate resignation from his current party.> “Mr. Peter Obi is not excluded from seeking the ADC presidential ticket.

The arrangement we have allows him to support his candidates within the LP for now, but he remains an integral part of our opposition strategy,” Abdullahi said.

The statement aligns with the broader understanding that Obi’s supporters are currently active in the Anambra governorship race under LP, and thus, a gradual transition into the coalition is the most practical political move.

The ADC’s stance signals a willingness to accommodate strong political players with grassroots support, while promoting unity among Nigeria’s fragmented opposition forces ahead of a highly anticipated electoral cycle.
