Hon. Taofeek Abimbola Ajilesoro, the lawmaker representing Ife Federal Constituency in Osun State, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing chronic internal crises, entrenched divisions, and a sustained culture of litigation within the party.
According to a report by Gists9ja, Ajilesoro’s exit came just hours after Governor Ademola Adeleke reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, despite recent speculations about his alleged plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Adeleke had urged his supporters to remain loyal to the party.
In a resignation letter dated July 22, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of Ilare Ward II in Ife Central Local Government Area, Ajilesoro announced his immediate withdrawal from the party. The letter was also copied to the National Assembly, the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), and other key party structures.
“Please accept this letter as formal notification of my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately,” he wrote.
“This decision, though difficult, has become necessary due to the persistent internal conflicts, deep-seated divisions, and the pervasive culture of legal disputes that have unfortunately come to characterise the party.”
Ajilesoro had long been seen as a political ally of Governor Adeleke and was believed to be one of the lawmakers prepared to follow the governor should he defect. However, Adeleke clarified on Tuesday that he remains committed to the PDP, dousing speculation about his potential departure.
Sources within the PDP also hinted that another federal lawmaker may follow suit by Wednesday, citing similar frustrations with the party’s internal dynamics.
