The All Progressives Congress (APC) appears to have settled on the North Central geopolitical zone to produce the party’s next National Chairman, signaling a possible resolution to internal agitation over regional representation.
According to party sources, the decision was reached following a series of high-level meetings ahead of today’s National Executive Committee (NEC) session in Abuja.The North Central zone had been clamouring for the position since the resignation of former Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, on June 27, after leading the party to victory in the 2023 general elections.
While speculation continues to mount, reports suggest that Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, current Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and a former APC governorship candidate in Plateau State, is being considered as the front-runner for the chairmanship position.
However, this has not been officially confirmed.Briefing reporters after a late-night meeting between APC governors and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Aso Villa, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma stated that today’s NEC meeting will be “very brief” and focused primarily on appointing a new National Chairman.When asked if the appointment would be by consensus, Uzodimma responded, “We cannot say what the outcome will be. When you come there tomorrow (today), you will see it.”If confirmed, the decision would mark a strategic shift aimed at balancing party interests ahead of future elections.
