A ₦12 million road project in Plateau State, awarded by the Federal Ministry of Works in 2024, has reportedly been washed away by floods less than a year after completion, raising fresh concerns over the quality of public infrastructure projects in Nigeria.
According to a report by TrackaNG, a civic accountability organization that monitors public projects, the road — meant to resurface and dress the Kogin Kasar Wase-Tofar Road — was poorly executed and ultimately abandoned, leaving many sections impassable and residents stranded.
The group revealed that despite the allocation of funds under the 2024 Federal Government budget, the project quickly deteriorated. Portions of the road have become unmotorable, effectively denying the community the intended benefits.
TrackaNG has since called on the federal government to take urgent action. “We call on the Federal Ministry of Works, specifically its roads department @FedRoadsNGR, to release full details of the project and compel Sahar Continental Ltd to return to the site to correct the shoddy work,” the organization said in a post on its X handle.
The incident underscores what many view as a systemic failure in project oversight and delivery, with repeated cases of substandard work despite significant government investment.“Citizens are demanding greater transparency and stricter oversight to prevent such failures from recurring,” TrackaNG added.
