Omawumi Slams Timaya Over False Burna Boy Claim: “He’s Had Embarrassing Moments I’d Never Publicize”

Popular Nigerian singer, Omawumi Megbele, has refuted Timaya’s claim that Burna Boy once ordered her and fellow singer Waje out of a recording studio for doubting his ambitions.

Recall that Timaya, in a December 2024 interview, alleged that Burna Boy had asked the two female artists to leave after they dismissed his prediction that he would one day be paid to fly on a private jet.Reacting during an interview with Naija FM Lagos, Omawumi stated emphatically that the incident never occurred. She expressed frustration over being dragged into a fabricated narrative, suggesting that the move was an attempt to tarnish her hard-earned reputation.

“That never happened,” she said. “What pains me most is that Timaya and I have shared a friendship, and I’ve always emphasized mutual respect in this industry. That’s the foundation of my brand. I don’t tear down my colleagues.”She questioned why Timaya felt the need to use her name while trying to validate a point about Burna Boy.“Why involve me at all?” she asked.

“Timaya himself has had several embarrassing episodes I would never expose, even to promote my own music. Burna Boy has never disrespected me. He always greets us with respect.”Omawumi added that she didn’t care whether the claim was made in a positive or negative context — it was false and damaging.

She clarified that the only time she was ever in the same room with Burna Boy, Waje, and Timaya was in 2010, during a studio session hosted by Waje.

“I left early that day because it was getting late. So I honestly don’t know when or where this supposed incident Timaya described ever happened.”

She concluded by urging fellow entertainers to be more responsible with their words, especially when it involves the reputations of others.
