A tragic incident unfolded in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State over the weekend, as a 25-year-old man, Michael Ikuedowoni, lost his life after being stabbed by his girlfriend, Augustina Mowari, during a heated quarrel allegedly fueled by accusations of infidelity.
According to sources, the couple, who shared a single-room residence, frequently clashed over suspicions of unfaithfulness. The fatal dispute reportedly began when Augustina accused Michael of being involved with another woman.
A source familiar with the situation, who spoke anonymously to LEADERSHIP, said the verbal exchange quickly turned violent. In a moment of anger, Augustina allegedly picked up a pair of scissors and stabbed Michael in the leg.
“He was bleeding, but we didn’t think it was serious. He was taken to a nearby hospital, given some injections and medication, and discharged that same day. But things got worse after he got home,” the source explained.
Michael’s condition reportedly deteriorated as his leg became swollen, prompting a return to the hospital late Sunday night. Despite efforts by medical staff, he was declared dead shortly after arrival.
Confirming the incident, Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the suspect is currently in custody.
“There was a disagreement between the two, during which the suspect stabbed the victim with a pair of scissors. He later died in the hospital. The suspect has been arrested, and the case will be charged to court once investigations are concluded,” Ayanlade said.
Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the full details behind the fatal confrontation.
