Segun Sowunmi, a former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign and a staunch ally of the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, has raised concerns over the party’s ability to withstand what he termed a “second stroke” – this time from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Sowunmi noted that while the PDP managed to endure the first major setback inflicted by the G-5 governors during the 2023 elections, a second disruption from the ADC could be fatal to the party’s survival.
He recalled how the G-5, led by then-Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, openly opposed PDP and its flagbearer, Atiku, during the last presidential race.
While Wike and some of his colleagues threw their support behind APC’s Bola Tinubu, others like Benue’s Samuel Ortom backed Labour Party’s Peter Obi.
Now, with the ADC gaining ground and recently endorsed by the opposition coalition, Sowunmi issued a fresh warning.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) page, he wrote:“PDP seems to have survived the first stroke caused by G-5. Let us hope it can survive the second stroke caused by ADC.
“To pretend not to see their efforts is madness. @OfficialPDPNig, there is more to energizing a party than what the present handlers are doing.”
