Former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), blaming the party’s inability to offer credible leadership to tackle Nigeria’s deepening political and socio-economic crises.
In a resignation letter dated July 4, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 1 in Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Melaye declared his exit from the party at all levels.
He also made the announcement public via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Thursday, July 31.
“I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement,” the letter stated.
Melaye, who was the PDP’s governorship candidate in Kogi State during the 2023 election, said his decision stemmed from the party’s “lack of potency and capacity to deliver Nigerians from the prevailing political cankerworms eating deep into the fabric of our nation.
”He expressed regret over the party’s direction, noting that after thoughtful consideration, he could no longer, in good conscience, remain a part of it.“
Having carefully reflected on the state of the party, I can no longer in good conscience participate in its activities or lend my support to its agenda.
Please consider this my formal withdrawal from the party and all its engagements at every level, effective immediately,” Melaye concluded.
