Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has secured a spot in the final of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket after a hard-fought 75–68 victory over Senegal in the semi-final clash held on Saturday.
This marks the fifth consecutive time the Nigerian side will play in the AfroBasket final, underlining their dominance in the tournament.
Following the impressive win, President Bola Tinubu extended his congratulations to the team, praising their resilience, discipline, and teamwork. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the win as a “final before the final.”
Tinubu also lauded Coach Rena Wakama, the team’s first female head coach, for her leadership and the role she has played in taking the team to new heights.

He assured the team of continued support from his administration as they pursue a fifth straight title and seventh AfroBasket championship overall.
D’Tigress will now face Mali in the tournament’s final in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, after Mali comfortably defeated South Sudan 76–50 in the other semi-final match.
