Suspected members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) have reportedly killed the village head of Kinnari, a remote settlement in the Damasak area of Mobbar Local Government, Borno State.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the brutal attack occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Friday, August 1, 2025, when armed insurgents stormed the village and fatally shot the 65-year-old traditional ruler, Goni Kinnari.
In response, troops of Operation Hadin Kai, alongside the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local hunters, swiftly mobilised to the area, successfully repelling the attackers.
The deceased village head’s body was taken to Damasak General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead, and later released to his family for burial according to Islamic customs.
Security forces have since intensified patrols in and around the area to deter further attacks and restore confidence among residents.
