A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has taken a swipe at former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, accusing him of desperation following his pledge to serve only one term if elected president in 2027.
Reacting via a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Igbokwe dismissed Obi’s vow as unrealistic, stating that those pushing for a single-term presidency lack a deep understanding of Nigeria’s complexities and what true leadership entails.
“Desperation everywhere. Those who do not know Nigeria very well and those who do not know what leadership is all about are desperately asking for a single term in office as President,” Igbokwe wrote.
He concluded pointedly, “Let us put our thinking caps. To be President of Nigeria is not moi moi.”
Peter Obi, during a recent public appearance, reiterated his earlier commitment to serve only one four-year term if given the opportunity to lead the country. He argued that he would not need eight years to deliver transformative leadership to Nigerians.
Igbokwe’s comment adds to the growing debate over Obi’s one-term proposal, with critics and supporters weighing in on whether such a model could be practical or effective in Nigeria’s political landscape.
