Troops under Operation Fansan Yanma, in collaboration with local vigilante groups, successfully repelled a fresh bandit attack in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The joint operation led to the recovery of three AK-47 rifles from the fleeing assailants.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, was disclosed by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama via a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

According to security sources, the armed bandits attempted to infiltrate Tsafe town through a remote forest corridor near the Yankuzo axis.

However, they were intercepted by security forces who had been strategically deployed in the area.

A fierce gun battle ensued, resulting in the neutralization of several bandits.

Although the exact number of casualties remains unconfirmed, it was reported that the attackers were forced to retreat, abandoning their weapons in the process.

“Several bandits were killed, and three AK-47 rifles were recovered during the encounter. The attackers were forced to retreat with casualties,” a security source stated.

In response to the attempted incursion, military reinforcements were swiftly deployed to the area to sustain pressure on the retreating criminals and prevent further threats to the community.

The operation is part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to restore peace and stability in Zamfara State, which has been plagued by persistent banditry and rural violence.
