Jonathan, Obi No Match for Tinubu in the North — Damagum’s Former Aide

Abubakar Yusuf Dingyadi, former media aide to Acting PDP Chairman Senator Iliya Damagum, has declared that neither former president Goodluck Jonathan nor ex-presidential candidate Peter Obi can unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 elections, particularly in northern Nigeria.

Speaking to reporters, Dingyadi dismissed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as incapable of mounting a serious challenge, noting that many of its members are poised to defect if denied the party’s ticket.

According to him, politicians defecting from one party to another are the same individuals who never contributed meaningfully to building their former parties.

“If they think they can unite against Tinubu, they are joking,” Dingyadi said. “Jonathan, Obi, or anyone else cannot come to the North and claim they’ll defeat Tinubu simply by promising security. Where were they in 2023? They were divided then and remain divided now.”

He accused opposition politicians of prioritising personal ambition over genuine party-building, and criticised them for touring the country to criticise Tinubu while failing to deliver results during their own time in power.

On Northern political interests, Dingyadi stated:

“No Northerner will tell us they love the North more than we do. This is not about ethnicity — those days are gone. If you want to rule Nigeria, show us what you have done for the North and what you will do to ensure its survival.”
