Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has declared that Labour Party’s Peter Obi was the rightful winner of Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Tonight on Monday, Lawal claimed the results available to him at the time showed Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not legitimately win. He alleged that the official outcome was altered, resulting in Tinubu being declared president.
“The result available to me at that time showed he didn’t win the election,” Lawal said, insisting that his team monitored the polls, gathered field data, and discovered significant discrepancies with the official figures.
Addressing his personal fallout with President Tinubu, Lawal accused him of arrogance.
“The problem with Bola Tinubu is that he thinks I’m the one that offended him. I didn’t offend him — he offended me. He is full of himself… The guy has an arrogance that belies definitions,” he stated.
Lawal, a vocal critic of the current administration, maintained that the 2023 election was manipulated, and that Obi emerged as the actual winner based on his team’s findings.
