Port Harcourt Pastor Arrested Over Viral Child “Deliverance” Video

The Rivers State Police Command has arrested 41-year-old Pastor Ifediorah Onyeibor Joseph after a disturbing video surfaced online showing him allegedly abusing children during a controversial church programme in Port Harcourt.

The viral footage shows at least 20 children, many unclothed, kneeling with palm leaves while being flogged with palm fronds. The man believed to be the pastor is seen whipping them before handing them over to two individuals dressed in white.

A voice in the background claims the ordeal lasted for three days, alleging that the children had visible injuries and that blood was collected in a basin.

Police spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the arrest on Wednesday, revealing that the pastor described the event as a “three-day spiritual cleansing” inspired by the Holy Spirit. Several church members were also arrested following coordinated intelligence efforts.

Rivers State Commissioner of Police CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju urged the public to remain calm, report suspicious activities, and assured that a thorough investigation is ongoing.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many Nigerians demanding justice for the children.
