Former President Goodluck Jonathan has described ex-Military President, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), as one of Nigeria’s most dedicated leaders.
Jonathan made the remarks on Sunday in Minna, Niger State, during a visit to Babangida’s Uphill residence to celebrate his 84th Birthday.
Speaking to journalists, Jonathan praised Babangida’s role in promoting national unity and good governance, noting that his contributions remain impactful.
“Since independence, Nigeria has produced many leaders, but General Babangida stands out as a committed leader who genuinely desires the best for our country,” Jonathan said.
He described Babangida as a leader who governed with sincerity, pursued national progress, and treated all Nigerians equally, regardless of ethnicity or region.
Jonathan further observed that Babangida’s home has become a gathering point for political leaders and admirers from across the nation.
“He did his best as Head of State, and that is why his residence has become like a Mecca, attracting people from all walks of life,” he added.
The former president urged young Nigerians to learn from Babangida’s wealth of experience and leadership style.
Earlier in the day, special prayers were offered at Babangida’s residence as part of activities marking his 84th birthday.
General Babangida, who ruled Nigeria from 1985 to 1993, remains a highly influential figure in the nation’s political history.
