The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four lawmakers for six months over an alleged plot to impeach the Speaker, Aondona Dajoh.
Those affected are Alfred Berger (Makurdi North), Terna Shimawua (Kian), Cyril Ekong (Obi), and James Umoru (Apa).
According to the House leadership, the suspension followed a failed attempt by the lawmakers to remove Speaker Dajoh on Thursday night. The Assembly described the action as a serious challenge to its leadership and internal order.
Confirming the decision, the House said the suspended members would not take part in legislative activities for the next six months as part of disciplinary measures.
The development has further heightened political tension within the Assembly, with the leadership warning that it would not condone any acts capable of destabilising the legislature.
