Enugu, Nigeria – The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Enugu State Chapter has strongly rejected the recently released voter registration figures by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Enugu State and the entire Southeast, describing the numbers as “false, manipulated, and designed to suppress the voting power of the region.”
In a press statement signed by Comrade David C. Ani, State Publicity Secretary of the ADC in Enugu State, the party expressed shock and disappointment at the data published by INEC, insisting that it does not reflect the reality on the ground.
According to INEC’s official release, the newly registered voters across the Southeast states stand as follows:
Abia State: 772
Anambra State: Nil
Ebonyi State: 261
Enugu State: 484
Imo State: 481
The ADC, however, argues that these figures are “a gross misrepresentation” of the true number of new registrants, especially in Enugu State, where the party claims that thousands of citizens participated actively in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
The party revealed that during the exercise, it mobilized its members and the public to register, and that over 2,000 people successfully completed their applications, both via INEC’s online portal and at physical registration centers. ADC officials also said they monitored the first week of the exercise and confirmed a high turnout of registrants, which makes the published numbers “practically impossible and highly suspicious.”
“The figures released by INEC are not only laughable but also a dangerous attempt to disenfranchise the people of Enugu and the Southeast. This is a direct assault on democracy and the collective will of our people,” the statement read.
The ADC further accused INEC of a long-standing pattern of bias and corruption, warning that the alleged manipulation of registration data poses a serious threat to Nigeria’s fragile democracy.
“We know INEC has a history of bias and corruption, but the depth of this deception is alarming. The disenfranchisement of the Southeast cannot and will not be tolerated,” Ani stated.
The party has called on INEC to immediately retract the published figures and release the authentic data reflecting the true level of participation in the voter registration exercise. It also urged citizens of Enugu and the wider Southeast to remain vigilant, continue obtaining their voters’ cards, and prepare to defend their democratic rights ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“To the good people of Enugu State and the Southeast, we urge you to rise and ensure you collect your voter’s cards. Your votes will be protected come 2027. It will no longer be business as usual; the era of political manipulation is over. The people are ready for change,” the statement emphasized.
The ADC disclosed that it has launched its own independent investigation into the registration figures and will publish its findings in due course. It warned INEC against becoming “an instrument of oppression” and vowed to resist any attempt to undermine the Southeast.
“Our party is determined to take over political power in Enugu State and across Nigeria to restore the country’s lost glory. We urge INEC not to be an instrument of darkness in the midst of the light that Nigerians are yearning for,” the statement concluded.
