Former Sokoto State Governor and key member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of actively working to destabilize opposition parties in Nigeria.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Tambuwal claimed that recent political developments across various parties suggest deliberate attempts to weaken the opposition.
He stated:
“When you look at what is happening in political parties in Nigeria today, you don’t need to be told the extent of denial and interference. They, including Tinubu, are involved in destabilising efforts against the opposition.”
Tambuwal added that he was not surprised by the state of governance under Tinubu, recalling that he had openly campaigned against him in the 2023 elections.
“I’m shocked that under Tinubu’s watch, Nigeria is being run the way it’s run today. But I can’t say I’m disappointed because I warned against him during the campaigns,” he said.
On reports linking him to a recent police invitation, Tambuwal maintained that he would honour any lawful call by security agencies but urged caution in how such actions are handled to avoid political interpretations.
The senator’s remarks add to the growing criticisms by opposition figures who accuse the Tinubu government of using state institutions and political manoeuvres to silence dissent and weaken rival parties.
